So, what is a vector file? According to Wikipedia, “Vector graphics files store the lines, shapes and colors that make up an image as mathematical formulae.” They also known as EPS files.
You can create vector files in Adobe Illustration and you can save as .ai and .eps format. The advantage of the vector format is that it is scalable without losing any quality as opposed to pixel based jpeg and other image files.
It depends on your purposes what format would be the best. All images from Camera would be saved as jpeg, png, tif, etc. All these images files are based on pixels.
Here is the example of vector vs jpeg file when it scales up.
The more you scale bigger in jpeg file, it loses the quality of the image dramatically. In contrast, the vector file doesn’t lose any quality and you can scale up as large as you want.
You will notice all logo-art-works are originally created in vector by designers and recreated in different programs to enhance it or keep it as is.
